Makok is a dwarfish sapodilla tree, originally from Thailand. The fruit are quite small, oval shaped and have a brownish colored flesh with minimal-to-no grit and excellent flavor. Most will only contain 1 or 2 seeds.
Makok trees are usually highly precocious and start bearing from a small size compared to most other sapodilla cultivars. Consequently growers may elect to thin or strip the fruit the first few years following their planting. The trees have a slow, spreading habit and make nice container specimens for those that want a sapodilla that can be grown in a pot.
Makok tends to fruit twice yearly for us with one crop in Spring and another in late summer and early Fall.
