Our Story

Tropical Acres Farms, Inc was founded in July of 2011 by Alexander Salazar, who grew up in south Florida and had a long-time passion for mangos. Initially the farm was begun on 5 acres of land in Loxahatchee Groves, FL.

In 2012 we began a partnership with the Sturrock family on their historic property in West Palm Beach, on which mangos have been grown since the 1920s. Since that time all production has been moved to this location.

The Sturrock family immigrated from Scotland and first began developing the land the farm now sits on in 1919. David Sturrock, an accomplished horticulturalist who was at one time employed in helping landscape the historic Vizcaya estate in Miami, eventually settled on the property with his wife Ruth. His son Tom and his family also lived in another home on the property which still stands.

Tom was a botanist and professor for Florida Atlantic University. Both David and Tom Sturrock made enormous historical contributions to the mango in Florida, and David eventually patented several mangos he bred, including the Duncan. David’s original Duncan mango tree still grows on the farm and produces fruit.

Today Sturrock Groves is owned by Jack Sturrock (Tom’s son) and his wife Brenda.
We are indebted to them for the incredible opportunity to grow mangos in West Palm Beach.
